I developed Volta's latest gravel line, a booming segment that keeps growing year after year. It was a very challenging project: it covered two models, each offered in several spec levels, meeting the needs of riders buying their first gravel bike, of those who want to head out on long adventures and, finally, of riders looking for higher-spec options built for performance, racing and elite categories.
I'm proud to have been part of this project, because the final product clearly breathes design, engineering and innovation.
The aluminium model is called Tirrena and the carbon one was named Indómita (Spanish for “untamed”), capturing the untameable feeling we get riding fast on dirt.
Tirrena was designed as a value-for-money product with a fresh look compared with what the market offers, fitted with a complete Shimano GRX groupset on every version in the range.
The carbon fibre line is aimed at high-performance riders. All its components are carbon and the frame is designed down to the smallest detail: for example, the pivot point in the chainstays, which gives it 4° of flex, or the storage space built into the frame tube, taking advantage of carbon's technical capabilities.
One version comes with Shimano's top gravel groupset, the GRX 800, and a more elite one with 13-speed SRAM XPLR.
With Indómita we set out to make it not only an excellent piece of engineering but also a work of art: the paint details really bring out the different parts of the frame, giving it a unique identity.
